Funding of £74m to support a range of locally led projects to improve the resilience and efficiency of local fire and rescue control rooms across England has been announced by Fire Minister Bob Neill.
The move follows the termination by the Coalition Government of the last Government’s FireControl project, which sought to regionalise fire control rooms across England.
Fire Minister Bob Neill MP said: “The Coalition Government is adopting a more localist approach to help secure improvements in national resilience, rather than trying to impose a forced regionalisation of the fire service. These locally led bids show we can strengthen national resilience and adopt new technology to save lives, without top-down Whitehall micro-management.”
The Chief Fire Officers Association said: “The Chief Fire Officers Association National Resilience Team has developed a detailed peer support process designed to provide assistance and support to fire authorities with the implementation of their control room improvement plans.”
